Image: c1900, posed scene, quality of the available image (digital) is rated 'poor'.
Location: In the village (on A1198) opposite the Arrington Gates.

The photograph, taken around 1900, shows residents posed in front of the porch to the Arrington almshouses . The six almshouses were built for Susan, Countess of Hardwicke in 1846, directly opposite the gates to Wimpole Hall. Two of the almshouses were built for married persons and four for single men or women.

The 1901 census lists the following:
Charles Smith, aged 69, employed as gatekeeper (Arrington Gates?)
Martha Smith, wife to Charles, aged 64
The residents:
Ann Payne, widow, aged 82 (ex Nurse/Maternity/Sick)
Mary Reed, widow, aged 77 (ex Nurse/Maternity/Sick)
   Elizabeth Long, widow, aged 84
   Sarah Howes, widow, aged 80
Sarah Wagstaff, widow, aged 79 (ex Laundress)

As all five listed residents were already living in the Almshouses at the time of the previous census in 1891, it is likely that they are all present in the c1900 photograph.
