Coronation Celebrations, 26 June 1911

Location: Ermine Street (at the Arrington Gates to Wimpole Hall).

A military band leads a procession through Arrington to celebrate the Coronation of Their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary. The parade has halted in Ermine Street alongside the Arrington Gates to Wimpole Hall. The banner reads "Wimpole and Arrington" and the route has been decorated with flowers and crowns (one just visible on the far right).

Coronation Day itself was on Thursday 22 June 1911, and this was declared a national public holiday. However, both this photograph and the one in front of Wimpole Hall (left) bear the date 26/6/11 which was the Monday following and presumably a work day. Either Wimpole and Arrington celebrated a little later than the rest of the country or the date refers to the day the photographs were processed.
